In the early 1970s, Morisson-Knudsen was hired to build the railway on the new stretch between
Love and Mount Wright. M-K imports its own locomotives and wagons to carry out the construction. Three ALCO C636 numbered, 5404, 5402 and 5401. These are former ALCO demonstrators. The new section entered into service on December 12, 1972, and in 1974, ownership of the locomotives was transferred to Québec-Cartier. The locomotives will become 77,78 and 79.
All C636 locomotives was painted in green / yellow around 1977.
